Renovations can often strip a hotel of its charm, but not the Park Hyatt Tokyo. The goal was clear: preserve the original vibe while modernizing its design and technology. And they succeeded! The high ceilings, a signature feature of the hotel, remain unchanged, giving you that familiar, iconic feel. However, the public areas that underwent major renovations feel elegant and seamlessly blend the old with the new.
But here's where it gets interesting: the room design is a bit of a mixed bag. While luxurious and fresh, the rooms feel somewhat bland and muted, almost like a "blank canvas." It's as if the designers wanted the rest of the hotel to shine, creating a subtle contrast between the rooms and the rest of the property. What do you think? The Culinary Delights: A Foodie's Paradise
The Park Hyatt Tokyo's food and beverage offerings are simply outstanding. From the famous New York Bar & Grill, with its lively atmosphere and nightly live music, to the exquisite Girandole by Alain Ducasse, where breakfast is served, every meal is an event. The western breakfast option is a highlight, offering a menu choice and access to a buffet that's not just big, but exceptional in quality. From the pastries (which you just can't resist) to the individual servings of smoked salmon and caviar, it's a gourmet's dream.
And let's not forget the Japanese restaurant, Kozue, with its kaiseki concept, and the fun-filled Peak Lounge & Bar. The design, vibe, and food quality across all these venues are impressive, and the service is top-notch. It's like having a little piece of culinary heaven within the hotel.
Wellness at Club on the Park: A Massive Retreat
Club on the Park, the hotel's wellness area, is an expansive 2,100 square meters of pure relaxation. With whirlpools, saunas, relaxation rooms, and more, it's a spa lover's paradise. The design, with its signature green color, adds to the overall experience. The 20-meter pool, a recognizable feature of the Park Hyatt Tokyo, remains unchanged, providing a familiar and comforting element.
However, the pool could have been given a modern twist to make it more inspiring. It's a basic lap pool, but the overall facility more than makes up for it with its "wow" factor.
The gym, located on the same level as the pool, is well-equipped, but the downside is that Club on the Park is only open from 6 AM to 10 PM, limiting gym access to specific hours.
Location: A Matter of Perspective
The Park Hyatt Tokyo's location in Shinjuku might not be everyone's cup of tea. As a visitor, I prefer a more central and picturesque area. While public transportation in Tokyo is excellent, the immediate surroundings of the hotel might not be the most appealing. But the views from the hotel are breathtaking, offering a unique perspective of the city, especially on clear days when Mount Fuji is visible.
Bottom Line: An Exceptional Hotel, But...
The Park Hyatt Tokyo's recent renovation has breathed new life into this iconic hotel. From its skyscraper location to the exceptional food and beverage outlets and the impressive wellness area, it's a top-notch experience. However, the location might be a deal-breaker for some, and the increased competition in the Tokyo hotel market means the Park Hyatt might not shine as brightly as it once did. But for hotels within major loyalty programs, it's hard to beat.
