But here's where it gets controversial: while the closure is expected to last throughout the day, some faculty members may choose to conduct classes virtually, raising questions about the balance between academic continuity and safety precautions. And this is the part most people miss: the university has provided clear guidelines for faculty and students, ensuring that academic responsibilities are managed while prioritizing safety. The closure begins at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, with plans to reopen at 5 a.m. on Wednesday, weather permitting. Staff are not required to report to work, and there is no expectation for remote work. However, designated essential personnel should check with their supervisors about reporting requirements. During the closure, all in-person, on-campus classes will not meet face-to-face, and all but essential university operations will cease.
